The Bordercats Working Group (BWG) is part of the IUCN/Species Survival commission’s Cat Specialist Group based in Switzerland. BWG is a cooperative,

comprised of carnivore biologists, conservation biologists, policy makers, and advocates who are concerned about the present status of border cats --ocelots (Leopardus pardalis), jaguars (Panthera onca), and jaguarundis (Herpailurus yaguarondi)-- throughout their historic range in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Sonora, and Tamaulipas. Members of the BWG have come together because they believe that: (1) cats as top predators are a fundamental component of border ecosystems; (2) bordercat conservation is critical; (3) present recovery plans and efforts are often inadequate for cat recovery; and (4) threats to their survival are persistent. By working together in an international setting, BWG believes that great strides can be made for these cats.
